​Agastache

Perennial.  Tubular spikes of flowers  come in wide range of colors and are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. This member of the mint family produces aromatic foliage that can be used to make tea, potpourris, or for other culinary uses.

Artemesia - Limelight

Perennial.  Sun to part shade.
Drought tolerant.
Divide rhizomes, can be invasive, n great in borders or container.  2 1/2' x 2'.

Arum

Greenish white spathe is followed by red fruit that look like ears of corn after mottled leaves have died down.  8" x 8".


Bearded Iris

Drought tolerant; acidic to alkaline soil
Deer resistant.
Comes in a rainbow of colors. Some cultivars bloom a second time in late summer.  2 1/2-4' x 2'.



Bee Balm

Perennial.  NATIVE.  Full sun.
Attracts bees & butterflies
Spreading, clump-forming herbaceous perennial. Each flowering stem bears whorled clusters of flowers. Divide by rhyzome.  3' x 2'.


Bellwort

Perennial.  NATIVE.  Shade. Keep moist  in humus-rich soils.Works well in naturalized woodland plantings as well as shady, designed beds. In bloom, large-flower Bellwort’s stems are less than one ft. tall, but later the forking stem lengthens. The bell-shaped, pale-yellow flowers are nodding and the perianth parts are often twisted. This clump-forming perennial’s leaves are drooping and lily-like and are paler green than those of most woodland plants.  9" x 9".

Candy Corn

 Perennial.  Sun/part shade.  Narrow leaves cover upright stems, from which bloom the yellow and red tubular flowers that resemble kernels of candy corn. This plant is also great for attracting butte pollinators. Late summer.  36"X24"

Chrysanthemums

Moist but well-drained soil.
Full sun.  The second most popular flower in the floral industry next to rose. For gardening enthusiasts, chrysanthemum is an autumn beauty; while for herbalist and health conscious people, it is a therapeutically important flower, popularly used in making herbal tea.   2 1/2' x 2 1/2'.

Propagate by division.  2-3' x 6".


Daylily

Establishes quickly and grows vigorously with little care.
Each plant produces an abundance of flowers that last only 1 day.  3' x 2'.

Hardy Fern

Woodland ferns add a lush, inviting element to your  shade garden all year 'round.


Resurrection Fern

Polypodium polypodioides
Perennnial.  NATIVE. Full sunlight to partial shade.  During periods of drought plant will dry then resurrect when rehydrated.  Grows attached to branches of forest trees. Fronds are arranged in a linear fashion. They are about 6” long x 1.5” wide.

Perennial.  Sun.  Fragrant trumpet shaped blooms open in late afternoon.  Attracts Hummingbirds, Butterflies, and Bees.

Hellebores - Lenten Rose

Perennial.  Shade/part shade.
Deer resistant.  Blooms  winter into spring.  Many colors, bowl or saucer shaped flowers, blooms for months, mostly evergreen. 1-2’ tall

Perennial.  Part shade.  Mounding plant grown for the foliage.  Size varies by variety.

Louisiana Iris

Keep moist. Grows in regular garden beds but also thrives in boggy conditions.
Sword-like foliage. 5-6’ x 2'. Has a wider color range than any other iris.

Jack in the Pulpit

Perennial.   NATIVE.  Shade/part shade.  Flowers are tiny crowded on a club shaped spadix surrounded by a green spathe.  As the flowers fade, the spathe withers and the spadix forms int red seeds.  24" x 12".

Perennial ground cover.  Part shade.  Varigated foliage with yellow blooms.  10" x 24".

​Lantana

Perennial.  Sun.An abundance of bright, small, tubular flowers form gorgeous orange-yellow globes that mature to orange-red over time. Mounded dark green foliage contrasts beautifully with the colorful blossoms, which reliably bloom all summer long.

Perennial.  NATIVE.  Full/partial shade.  Keep moist.  Leaves are in the shape of an umbrella
. White blooms under the leaves are followed by fruit.  Plant will die back until spring.  Currently being studied as a treatment for cancer.   1 1/2' x 1'.



Mexican Petunia

Ruellia brittoniana.
Perennial.  Full sun.  Lavendar blooms.  Attracts butterflies.
Petunia-like flowers from spring to frost, spreads by seed, rhizomes, very invasive if left unchecked.  3' x 1'.



Monkey Grass

Part shade/full sun
Moist well drained soil. Prefers light, acidic soil.
Dense spikes of violet-mauve flowers, black berries.


Obedient Plant

Physostegia virginiana Variegata.
Full/part sun.  Grows to about  and blooms in late summer/early fall.  Thrives in full sun or partial shade with average to damp soil. If provided some elbow room, plants form an impressive stand that will light up the garden all summer and mount a breathtaking fall finale.  3' x 2'.

Surprise Lilies - Naked Ladies

Lycoris squamigera.
Perennial.  Full sun (produces larger blooms) to part shade.
Adaptable to either sandy or clay soil, well drained.
Dormant in summer after the foliage has died back and before flowers emerge in June.
Five to seven pink, four-inch long trumpets are produced atop the pale, naked three foot tall stems
Divide bulbs every 3 to 5 years as it multiplies rapidly.  2' x 1'.


Lilies-Red Spider

Perennial.  Sun.  Leaves appear in fall, hang around all winter and dieback in early summer.  Red flowers with very long stamens similar to cat whiskers appear in October on naked stems.

Various Sedums

Perennial.
Full/ part sun.
Drought tolerant.
A diverse group of succulent plants, ranging from diminutive mats to 2-foot shrubby mounds. They are most often grown for their colorful, clean foliage and ease of culture. Foliage colors range from smoky blue to rich burgundy throughout the season.  2-4' x 2-4'.


Shasta Daisy

Perennial.  Full sun
.
Plenty of water during their growing season.
Bloom over a long period from early summer to autumn with happy bright white flower heads borne singly atop long green stems. 

Spiderwort

Perennial.  Sun.  15"x15".  Clumps of slender leaves. 
Stalks are topped by blue-violet flowers with yellow stamens.

Trillium

Perennial.  NATIVE.  Shade.  Red.  These woodland plants bloom in late winter and spring with their symmetry of threes: three leaves, three sepals, and three petals—hence, the common name “trinity flower.” Some big, some small, some white, some deep red.

Vinca

Perennial.  ​A great ground cover for shady areas under trees, but it tolerates full sun, too. It produces more flowers when grown in full sun.
Grows fastest in a moist soil.
A fast growing vine with slender woody stems that sprawl along the ground, rooting at every node. The leaves are evergreen, opposite, about 2” long and elliptic in shape. Common periwinkle has violet-blue flowers shaped like funnels with a star shaped mouth of five widely flared lobes, about 1” across.  1' x 30".

Wild Geranium

Geranium.
Perennial.  Pink.  Part Shade.
Flowers in late spring. Grows in dry to moist woods and is normally abundant when found. Used in herbal medicine, and is also grown as a garden plant. Wild Geranium is considered an astringent, a substance that causes contraction of the tissues and stops bleeding.   1 1/2' x 1 1/2'.

Woodland Violet

Yarrow

Achillea millefolium L.
Perennial.  Sun/part shade.
Drought tolerant.
Attracts Bees.
Flat-topped clusters of small, whitish flowers grow at the top of a gray-green, leafy, usually hair, stem. Formerly used for medicinal purposes. Foliage has a pleasant smell when crushed.
