Gardens with Wings

Monarchs and Milkweed
  • Joint project with Tupelo Garden Club.
  • In May, present educational program for kindergarten or elementary school children about Monarch butterflies.
  • Each child releases a live butterfly from an envelope.
  • Children receive milkweed plants to take home.  Milkweed plants are grown by Master Gardeners.
  • Have butterflies for children to release at Celebration of Gardens, plus milkweed plants and educational displays.

Gardens with Wings
  • Butterfly garden in a box is presented at the Lee County Master Gardener plant sale. The project strives to assist members of the community select the best larval host and butterfly nectar plants for Mississippi.  Many recommended plants will be available for purchase.  Information, including pictures will be presented to help individuals choose the best plants for their own butterfly gardens
