Lee County Master Gardeners are volunteers who support the Mississippi State University Extension Service by educating the public on the best research-based practices in horticulture and environmental stewardship.
What do the Lee County Master Gardeners do?
Lee County Master Gardeners are involved in a variety of activities including:
- Educate the public through the monthly Learning Series classes, the Horticultural Help Center, and regular contributions of informative articles for the Daily Journal newspaper and Invitation magazine.
- Volunteer service projects such as the Sanctuary Hospice House, Junior Master Gardener program, the MS Sun Garden, Butterfly and Triangle gardens at the extension office in Tupelo.
- An annual plant sale to raise money for: Two Horticulture scholarships to MSU, funding the volunteer and educational projects offered by the Lee County Master Gardeners to the public, and contributions to various charitable organizations around Lee County.
- Facilitate the training of new Lee County Master Gardeners each year by offering the MSU Extension Service Master Gardener educational program at the extension office in Tupelo.
- Increase personal knowledge of horticulture through many educational opportunities such as: the Mississippi Master Gardener State Conference each year, monthly learning opportunities at the member meeting, and many other learning opportunities offered around the state and in nearby states.
- Have fun: Annual picnic in June, annual Christmas party in December, traveling together to the state conference and other educational opportunities, and sharing their gardens and plants with each other!
