Basil-African Blue

Annual.  Sun.  New growth is deep purple turning to green with purple flecks as it matures.  Plant is sterile so the taste is not affected by letting the plant bloom.  Pink flowers.  24" x 24".

Fennel--Bronze

Perennial Herb.
Full sun.
Fern like foliage.
Both foliage and bulb are used in cooking.
Host plant for Black Swallowtail butterfly.

Lemon Balm

Perennial herb.  Sun/part shade.  24" x 24".   Member of mint family grows as a bushy, leafy plant with a pleasant lemon smell and small white flowers.  Deadhead to prevent spreading.

Oregano

Origanum Vulgare.
Perennial.  Full Sun.
Occasional but not frequent watering.   Attracts: Hummingbirds and Butterflies.  Flowers are white, pink and purple formed in erect spikes. This perennial herb will not tolerate extremely cold winters but will grow outdoors between zones 5-10. To keep flavorful only water when dry taking care not to over water. Do not use additional fertilizer. If you are growing oregano for consumption you should pinch out flower right away. Wait until plant is 5” tall before clipping leaves. Once the plant flowers it will lose flavor. However, many gardeners allow oregano to flower in their gardens to attracts pollinators.

Parsley

Biennial herb.  Sun/part shade.  12" x 12".  Curly leaf parsley is an attractive plant that can be  use alone or as a border plant.  Leaves used as a garnish or seasoning in cooking.  Host plant for Black Swallowtail caterpillars.

Rue

Perennial.  Sun.  36" x 18".  Aromatic fern-like blue-green leaves.  Flowers are yellow with frilly petals and green centers.  Host plant for Black Swallow tail, Giant Swallowtail, and Anise Swallowtail butterflies.  Sap can irritate some people. 

Strawberries

Perennial.  ​Full sun.
Water at least 1" weekly.
Risk of wilt disease if planted in soil where tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, & eggplant were grown.
